Bette Davis Eyes #1 Song In June & July of 1981
That’s perfect somehow.
The song stayed at number one for 9 weeks, with a one week interruption on June 20 by “Stars on 45”. But, on June 27 – the week of the robbery and murders, Bette Davis Eyes by Kim Carnes had taken over the top spot again, according to Billboard Magazine.
Stars on 45 was a Beatles disco medley made by some sound-alike Euro singers and it’s still annoying today. My dad owned the cassette and it lived in his car’s tape deck. It’s so bad, like Up With People bad. I do like old disco, just not that canned crap. The Beatles are bad enough, why add disco to the mix (just kidding).
Bette Davis admitted to being a fan of “Bette Davis Eyes” and approached Carnes and the songwriters to thank them for making her “a part of modern times.” It was the biggest hit of 1981 and the song won two Grammy Awards.
