The Last Stop For John Holmes

John Holmes died on March 13, 1988. You can read about the VA hospital here at the blog. It’s now a part-time movie set, and the other half of the hospital is out-patient only for veterans.

According to his death certificate:

Two days later, John’s mortal remains were cremated here at the Chapel of the Pines Crematory, just west of downtown L.A. His ashes were spread at sea just off the coast of Oxnard, CA.

This nice domed structure looks like an observatory, and was built in 1903. Although their website claims “the final resting place for the cremains for a number of notable persons”, most of them are obscure (to me) old timey actors from before 1950. The only name that jumped out at me was Stephen Stucker. He played Johnny in the Airplane movies. Stephen died of AIDS in 1986, two years before John Holmes.

John was probably delivered through this service entrance to the receiving area/back door. Note the creepy looking smokestacks.
